Welcoming a New Family Member
Well, it wasn't exactly planned this way but in honor of Adopt A Senior Pet Month, the Dress My Rescue team is pleased to welcome a new crew member! Meet Buddy, our new senior rescue consultant. He comes with 15 years of experience in eating, napping, and generally being a huge sweetheart.
Unfortunately, Buddy's story is a sad one. He and a kitty were discovered by a landlord after they were left behind in their owner's house for three weeks with no food or water. He was in rough shape and close to not making it when they found him, but the landlord took him to the vet and generously paid for his care. He was fostered by a wonderful employee there and given another chance at a happy life. When those eye came across our Facebook feed looking for a forever home, we just knew he was supposed to be ours.
It has been a joy taking Buddy into our home. He doesn't ask for much beyond his food, a walk, and a few scratches and cuddles. He's a wonderful dog and we're so happy to let him live out the rest of his life as a part of our family.
If you've ever considered adopting an older pet, we encourage you to give it a try. You will be rewarded with unconditional love and a satisfaction that comes with knowing you've given an old soul a warm and loving place to lay their head at night. Besides, how can you resist those old man eyebrows? :)

What's Your Favorite New Shelter Pet Project Video?
A person is the best thing to happen to a shelter pet. Be that person!
So goes the theme of the The Shelter Pet Project's four new PSA's promoting pet adoption. The project is a two year old collaboration of the Humane Society of the United States, the Ad Council, and Maddie's Fund.
My personal fave is the Beagle, but the park dogs are a close second. Check them out and let me know which one you like best in the comments below. Enjoy, and please use these cute videos to help spread the word about choosing pet adoption!

15% Off for Dress Your Pet Day
Today is National Dress Up Your Pet Day! We have no clue who started the day or why, but we do know it would be silly for us not to celebrate it!
Now, we're not the type of pet owners who are into doggie tutu's and dresses (to each their own), but we can't resist a cute shirt or sweater. Check out one of our friends and favorite pet owners, Amy Hofacker, with her little guy Mikey. Mikey is decked out in the Cute As A Button pet tee. Doesn't he wear it well?
In honor of this fun day, all Dress My Rescue merchandise is 15% off until midnight tonight. Use coupon code DRESSMYPET15 at checkout. Grab your favorite pet tee or tote bag and let everyone know how important it is to give pets a second chance!

If you haven't checked it out yet, Amy owns Funamals and is the artist behind our Empty Shelter Project film. It's a great little video to raise awareness about the need for pet adoption, spaying and neutering. Check it out if you haven't had the chance.

5 Reasons I Adore My Senior Pet
Today marks the end of Adopt-A-Senior-Pet month and I wanted to send a little tribute out to my favorite senior girl. Six years ago, we adopted Beatrice from our local county shelter where she had come in as a stray. I don't know how in the world she ended up there, but I'm sure glad I found her. Here are the top 5 reasons I adore my senior pet:
- Girlfriend is chill. Her only real goal is to hang out on the couch and cuddle. She's a low maintenance kind of girl and that fits pretty well into our lifestyle. She doesn't even mind that we have to go to work every day. When else would she get in her 8 hour naps?
- I like guessing games. Because she was adopted, we don't know how old she really is. She could be 10 or she could be 15. Who knows? Each year, she gets a little more gray and adorable and I pretend she's a year younger.
- Potty training, shmotty training. Accidents in the house have never been an issue with this one. I won't even pretend to be disappointed that I didn't have to get out the wee wee pads and carpet cleaner.
- I've never lost a pair of shoes, a toy, or a piece of furniture. Have you ever looked into an old pugs mouth? It's a pretty mangled mess in there so even if she wanted to she couldn't do any chewing damage. Besides, Beatrice reserves her energy for eating treats.
- She's happy as a clam to live with us. She trotted out of that shelter and never looked back. Beatrice may be grateful that we took her home that day, but I consider myself the lucky one. I couldn't have asked for a better friend.
If you've never considered adopting a senior pet, I really encourage you to give it a try. You can find so many great senior pets looking for homes on Petfinder. I promise you won't regret it.
Happy Adopt-A-Senior-Pet month from all of us at Dress My Rescue!
